Sierra Health + Wellness: Monterey, CA

Sierra Health + Wellness in Monterey, CA, specializes in treating dual diagnosis (co-occurring disorders) utilizing a whole-person approach for rehab. Owned and operated through Sierra Health + Wellness, this Monterey Rehab provides evidence-based therapies through detox, residential, outpatient, and virtual intensive outpatient programs. Other focuses include a comprehensive Relapse Prevention Program and an opportunity for ongoing peer support with an Alumni Program.

Detox Programs

Drug rehab in Monterey, CA, begins with an individual medical assessment to collect medical history, physical examination, mental health determination, and addiction-based details. From the beginning of the evaluation, the compassionate and experienced staff strive to build a foundation for a trusting relationship.

Before the individual detox plan begins, the staff explains how medical management during the detox process can address the discomfort from the body withdrawing from the substance. Available 24/7, the detox process is an essential part of the recovery process. Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) is available to address the uncomfortable symptoms of withdrawal.

Whole-Person Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Dual diagnosis indicates that not only is a substance use disorder present, but a mental health condition is also present at the same time. In particular, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress are treatable in conjunction with a substance use disorder through dual diagnosis treatment. Whole-person is an evidence-based mind, body, and soul treatment option using holistic and traditional therapies to address a dual diagnosis. Moreover, many first responders, veterans or military personnel, and trauma survivors struggle with a dual diagnosis and respond favorably to this type of treatment.

Sierra Health + Wellness specializes in Dual Diagnosis treatment. Firefighters, police, EMS personnel, and Veterans struggle daily with trauma-relateable stress and can lack the training to cope healthily. Professionals such as attorneys, airline pilots, medical and mental health professionals, and flight attendants often face the same obstacles and reach out to substances for relief in overcoming the symptoms of anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. People with a substance use disorder in this unfortunate situation are professional high-functioning addicts (HFAs) and need treatment for dual diagnosis.

Residential Inpatient Treatment

Focusing on recovery is the theme of residential inpatient treatment with our Monterey Rehab. Inpatient programs may seem overwhelming, but time and focus on sobriety, therapy, and lifestyle changes are vital to maintaining long-term sobriety. Under the supervision of treatment staff, clients can develop a life strategy that concentrates on positivity and good health while building a foundation for personal growth. Inpatient treatment may appear to be too restrictive, but in reality, it protects a vulnerable population.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Association’s (SAMHSA) Guide To Substance Abuse, integrating several evidence-based therapies and medication-assisted treatment options exposes the clients to a well-rounded treatment plan. In addition, holistic treatments that include meditation, mindfulness, and creative energy introduce lifestyle habits to carry forward into a sober lifestyle. Conscious Recovery delves into the underlying root causes that drive the harmful coping mechanisms of the past. Residential inpatient treatment offers an essential Relapse Prevention Plan to rely on to support future success.

Outpatient Addiction Rehab

We understand that options must be available for those who cannot attend residential inpatient treatment programs. Fortunately, Drug Rehab in Monterey, CA, offers appropriate and successful options to meet individual needs. Outpatient treatment plans are successful strategies for addiction recovery, and understanding the differences is crucial. After all, there is no one-size-fits-all treatment for a substance use disorder; providing outpatient services serves those who work, have educational responsibilities, or have family to attend to.

The following outpatient treatment options are available with Monterey Rehab:

  • Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) serve those needing a step down from residential inpatient programs. For those who choose not to participate in residential inpatient treatment, IOP requires a minimum of 9 hours a week or 3 hours per session with day and evening scheduling available.
  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) requires 5 days a week, Monday through Friday, 6 hours a day of structured addiction treatment. PHP can provide transitional treatment for those coming out of residential inpatient as well as those who need to be home while attending rehab. Day rehab is a very successful option for addiction recovery.
  • Virtual Intensive Outpatient Program offers California residents the opportunity to receive addiction treatment through virtual means. This option is also an insurance-acceptable form of treatment where individual and group therapy participation utilizes a computer, phone, or tablet.

Relapse Prevention Plan

To complete our addiction treatment, we add a relapse prevention plan to remind our clients of high-risk situations that may occur and how to manage them. Teaching clients essential daily tools such as controlling self-talk, building critical thinking strategies, and focusing on achievable goals helps decrease daily stressors. Relapse can occur quickly, so learning how to identify symptoms that may appear out of nowhere is crucial to controlling the urge to use again. Understanding that if relapse occurs, there are options to regain sobriety to reach out for.

Mindfulness Instruction

Relapse prevention with Monterey Rehab includes learning how to practice mindfulness meditation as an effective tool. Research proves that mindfulness can help control reactionary issues, encouraging the use of positive and healthy coping mechanisms to count on. Whole-person treatment theory includes practicing mindfulness because it positively affects brain and immune functions. The practice also creates the ability to improve sensory, cognitive, and emotional processing.

Sierra Health + Wellness Alumni Program

Maintaining sobriety includes keeping connections available to sustain sobriety and build longevity in essential relationships. Staying in touch with mentors and peers experiencing the same sobriety-based lifestyle offers many beneficial opportunities for personal growth and a supportive resource. Maintaining an aftercare program lends to additional confidence and another means of relapse prevention. When struggles occur, and they will, having an alum program to reach out to can be life-saving.

Unfortunately, I had to discharge from NSRS after only 21 days of treatment due to issues with my insurance company. The program changed my life. Every single therapist on staff are in recovery and passionate about helping us step out of the throes of active addiction. The classes were always engaging. I developed friendships with my peers and for the first time, I didn't feel so alone. The only negative part of the program is that it took longer for me to take care of my outside responsibilities than I had expected due to very limited phone use. With that said, if residents were allowed to have their cell phones all day, there would be tons of stressors coming in from people outside the program (i.e. family bickering, non-sober friends, etc). Thank you to all the staff, Jenna, Micah, Mrs. Charlotte, Valerie, Jem, the nursing staff, the cooking staff, and a special thank you to my amazing therapist, Arthur. Your love and support saved my life.

Far and away the best addiction treatment facility I've ever experienced. Everything is provided for you so you can concentrate on your recovery. The staff is amazing from the director to the groundskeepers all professional and approachable with any issue. The food is top notch expertly prepared with attention paid to those with special dietary needs. The counseling staff are outstanding each one bringing their own experience and unique personality to share with the group and in doing so becoming relatable to each individual in the group. If I could rate at 10 stars I would.
