Timothy (Tim) Jones is the Chief Nursing Officer at Sierra Health + Wellness. He is responsible for overseeing the nursing department, and nursing services, and managing the nursing staff.
“From my very first psychology course in undergrad, I was fascinated by the art and science of mental health and addiction care. I knew from that moment I wanted to learn more about how I could be part of helping those in need. After completing an undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology,
I stumbled into awareness of a nursing career during my first job post-college when I worked as a case manager for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness in a supported independent living program. In that role, I was given a window into the struggles, challenges, and difficult choices our clients face beyond what is typically available for providers in the finite time of a traditional 15-minute medical or 1-hour therapy appointment.
As I ventured on my own journey to become a nursing professional and grow as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, those experiences have guided me to better care for individuals with mental health and addiction care needs through the language I use as a provider to normalize care, the inclusion of support systems while in treatment, the compassion required in every client interaction, and the consideration that must be given to the selection of medications and/or treatment recommendations that are actually accessible to clients.”
“And as I grew as a provider, I learned that there are limits to the scale and reach of an individual clinician. This drove me to seek opportunities in leadership, where I could share and instill the values and standards I hold through building and growing programs, service lines, and organizations to offer the highest quality of care to exponentially more clients who need and deserve it. Staying connected to direct patient care throughout my leadership journey has helped me be a better leader and nursing professional by seeing opportunities for improvement up close and from a broader view. I value the honor and privilege I have with Sierra Health + Wellness to lead our nursing teams to deliver the safest and highest quality care to our countless clients.”
Tim practiced as a Registered Nurse at Yale-New Haven Hospital as a Charge RN on Trauma/Emergency General Service, and as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Intern at Yale, at the Posttraumatic Stress Center.
Tim has his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology, and his Master of Science in Adult Psychiatric — Mental Health Nursing, from Yale University.
